Sydney Library Restores 'How to Sell a Genocide' After State Library Cites New Independence Law
Waverley library in Sydney returned "How to Sell a Genocide" to shelves on August 28, 2026, after the State Library of New South Wales reminded the council of obligations under 2026 amendments to the Library Act reinforcing library collection independence. The council had pulled the book — which critiques US media coverage of Gaza — earlier in August following a complaint reportedly from a Bondi terror attack survivor. A petition with nearly 2,500 signatures preceded the reinstatement.
