Ottawa reverses course on seafood counter-tariffs within a day

Finance Canada dropped fish and seafood from its retaliatory tariff list on Aug. 27, 2026, one day after announcing 25 per cent duties on those goods. Counter-tariffs are duties imposed to pressure a trading partner. Atlantic exporters said the tariffs would hurt firms competing with Iceland, Norway and Russia. The revised list takes effect Sept. 8.
