Ottawa drops seafood from counter-tariff list one day after announcing it

Finance Canada removed fish and seafood products from its retaliatory tariff list on August 27, 2026, one day after announcing 25 per cent duties on them. The department cited industry feedback and broader economic harm. Atlantic Canadian exporters had warned the tariffs would squeeze thin-margin firms competing with rivals in Iceland, Norway and Russia. The revised counter-tariffs take effect September 8.
