OpenAI's Data Center Head Chris Malone Exits After Infrastructure Reorg

OpenAI's head of data centers, Chris Malone, left in late August 2026 after an infrastructure reorganization shifted his reporting line and split his responsibilities across three executives. Malone joined in March 2025, shortly after the $500 billion Stargate initiative launched. His departure brings OpenAI's 2026 executive exit count to 13, including its COO, chief revenue officer, and head of ethics.
