OpenAI's Head of Data Centers Chris Malone Departs After Infrastructure Reorganization

Chris Malone, OpenAI's head of data centers, left in late August 2026 after an infrastructure reorganization moved his reporting line from President Greg Brockman to VP Sachin Katti and split his portfolio across three executives. Malone joined in March 2025, shortly after the $500 billion Stargate data center initiative launched. His exit brings OpenAI's 2026 executive departure count to 13, including its COO, chief revenue officer, and head of ethics.
