
GrowthNZ proposes state-owned company for remaining gas and coal plants
Bi-partisan business group GrowthNZ wants a government-owned company to run New Zealand's remaining gas and coal plants, selling electricity backup to all industry players on equal terms. Co-chair Bowen Pan says bills are high because shortages let costly coal and gas set the price. The plan would mean major state intervention in a market privatised since the 1990s.
