Luxon rules out bed tax and bank tax he floated two weeks earlier

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has promised "no new taxes" if National is re-elected in November 2026, scrapping a bed tax and a bank tax he raised publicly a fortnight earlier. Auckland mayor Wayne Brown called the reversal on the bed tax "walking away" from the Auckland Regional Deal signed in April 2025.
