Arizona Border Deaths Hit 19 in July, Highest Monthly Toll Since 2024
Pima County's medical examiner recovered 19 migrant remains, including children, along the Arizona-Mexico border in July — the worst monthly toll since 2024. The yearly total reached 73, up 24 percent from 59 at this point in 2025. Most deaths trace to dehydration and exposure in the Sonoran Desert, where smugglers push migrants through increasingly remote, lethal terrain.
