Government keeps Clean Vehicle Standard after review weighed scrapping it

The government will keep the Clean Vehicle Standard — a rule requiring importers to bring in lower-emissions vehicles — after a review considered axing it. Transport Minister Chris Bishop said it was the most cost-effective way to cut vehicle emissions. New targets start 1 January 2028; current reduced penalty rates stay until then.
