Illegal Gold Mine Landslide in Colombia Kills 13
A landslide buried an unlicensed open-air gold mine near Policarpa, in Colombia's Nariño province, killing at least 13 workers and injuring seven. Witnesses heard an explosion moments before. Diggers recovered the dead. The site had no state safety oversight — a reality for much of Colombia's artisanal mining sector, where 200,000–400,000 work outside formal regulation.
