Russian Missiles Kill at Least Nine in Kyiv as Bombardment Escalates
Russian missiles struck Kyiv overnight on 19–20 August 2026, killing at least nine and wounding 33 across homes, a medical facility, and a school, authorities said. The attack extends a month-long escalation: strikes on 31 July and 4 August killed 10 and 17. Ukraine's air defences — systems designed to shoot down incoming threats — have at times failed to intercept ballistic missiles, which travel too fast to track easily.
