Family of four caught in difficulty while swimming off Shoreham-by-Sea

A couple and their teenage daughter died after getting into difficulty swimming at Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, on August 18, 2026. A younger girl from the same family is hospitalised in critical condition. Sussex Police's Chief Superintendent James Collis confirmed all four went for a swim before encountering difficulty. Emergency services were called at 2:40pm.
