Apple replaces EU per-install fee with flat 5% commission on out-of-store sales

Apple on August 18, 2026 replaced the EU's Core Technology Fee — a fixed €0.50 charge per app install — with a flat 5% commission on digital goods sold outside the App Store. In-app purchase fees drop to 26%, or 20% with alternative payment processors. The change follows a 500-million-euro DMA fine in 2025.
