YouTube moves long-form view counting to playback-start

YouTube will count a long-form video view the moment playback begins, starting August 24, 2026, replacing a threshold-based method that required more watch time. The shift brings long-form videos in line with YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and TikTok. YouTube is consolidating format-specific counting into one rule. Monetization and Partner Program eligibility remain unchanged.
