YouTube changes how it counts views on long videos

YouTube will count a view on long videos the moment someone starts watching, starting August 24, 2026. Previously, viewers had to watch a certain amount before it counted. The change matches how YouTube Shorts, Instagram, and TikTok already count views. YouTube is merging its separate counting rules into one. Creator earnings and program eligibility stay the same.
