Labor's gambling ad register: opt-out, not opt-in
The Albanese government's new wagering ad opt-out register lets individuals block gambling ads in one place, but ads stay on by default. ACMA runs it; a levy on betting firms funds it. Labor and Liberal MPs and the Greens wanted a full ban or opt-in model. The package also reins in inducements and social media influencers. The Coalition hasn't committed. Passage was expected by week's end.
