Prince Alois announced August 15, 2026, that Liechtenstein will adopt absolute primogeniture — where the eldest child inherits regardless of gender. This ends male primogeniture, under which a younger brother could displace an elder sister. Women may now ascend the throne for the first time. No implementation timeline or legislative path has been given.
