Historic Wildfire Near Split Kills One, Injures 40 on Croatia's Adriatic Coast

A wildfire scorched 1,000 hectares in four hours near Split, Croatia, on August 13–14, 2026, killing one person and injuring about 40 — 10 critically. Fire chief Slavko Tucakovic called it among Croatia's worst. Some 1,200 residents and tourists were evacuated; over 300 firefighters deployed overnight.
