One Dead, 40 Injured as Historic Wildfire Devours Croatia's Adriatic Coast Near Split

One person died and roughly 40 were injured — 10 in intensive care — when a wildfire consumed 1,000 hectares in four hours near Split, Croatia, on August 13–14, 2026. Fire chief Slavko Tucakovic called it "one of the worst" in the country's history. Some 1,200 residents and tourists were evacuated. Over 300 firefighters were deployed overnight.
