OpenAI Takes Stake in Thrive Holdings, Tying Itself to Its Own Backer

In December 2025, OpenAI acquired an ownership stake in Thrive Holdings, a Thrive Capital spinout that has bought over 70 companies and employs 35 in-house engineers. Thrive Capital had previously invested in OpenAI. The reciprocal equity links an AI lab to a venture-backed roll-up vehicle — a structure venture capital has rarely seen.
