OpenAI Now Owns Part of a Company Run by Its Own Investor

In December 2025, OpenAI bought a stake in Thrive Holdings, a company formed by Thrive Capital that has acquired more than 70 businesses with 35 engineers on staff. Thrive Capital had already invested in OpenAI. The two-way financial link between an AI company and its own investor is something venture capital has rarely seen.
