
UK Fires Broadest Emergency Alert as Wildfire Risk Spreads Across England and Wales
On August 14, 2026, millions of phones across England and Wales sounded a siren warning of serious wildfire risk. Deputy PM Louise Haigh called it the UK's most extensive use of its emergency alert system. Fire services had declared 11 major incidents in 24 hours.
