UK Sends Broadest-Ever Emergency Alert as Wildfire Risk Grips England and Wales

At roughly 7pm on August 14, 2026, millions of phones across England and Wales blared a siren warning of "a serious risk of wildfires nationally." Deputy PM Louise Haigh called it the most extensive use of the UK's emergency alert system. Fire services had declared 11 major incidents in the prior 24 hours. Around 200 military personnel were deployed as 2026 surpassed 2025's wildfire record.
