
Back-to-Back Train Derailments in Southeast England Raise Infrastructure Questions
Eleven people were injured, two seriously, when a Southern Rail train derailed in East Sussex on August 13, 2026. A Greater Anglia train derailed near Wickford, Essex the next day. Different operators, no established link — but consecutive derailments will pressure the RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) and ORR (Office of Rail and Road) to investigate whether shared infrastructure or maintenance factors connect them.
