Apple builds custom AI model with Alibaba for China, first US firm cleared to offer proprietary model there

Apple trained a custom AI model for China using Alibaba's Qwen architecture, Reuters reports — the first US company cleared to offer a proprietary AI model in the country. The model will power Apple Intelligence via an upcoming iOS update. Apple had previously relied on existing Chinese AI providers rather than building its own.
