
Mali's Junta Detains Its Own Soldiers Amid Growing Threats
Mali's security minister said soldiers were detained for plotting to destabilise the state. The purge comes as Islamist fighters impose partial blockades on the capital, Bamako, and full blockades elsewhere, including Ségou. Colonel Assimi Goïta, who seized power in 2021 and made himself defence minister, has dissolved all political parties and extended his rule to at least 2030.
