Betting firms gave ex-NRL player cocaine and alcohol, inquiry told

Former rugby league player Luke Bateman told a parliamentary inquiry that gambling company promoters supplied him with cocaine and alcohol, alleging the betting industry showed him no duty of care. Nationals MP Pat Conaghan cited the testimony in a House of Reps speech on 13 August 2026, backing his gambling reform bill.
