Footy player says betting companies gave him drugs and alcohol

Former rugby league player Luke Bateman told a government inquiry that gambling company promoters gave him cocaine and alcohol, saying the betting industry never looked after his wellbeing. Nationals MP Pat Conaghan quoted Bateman's story in Parliament on 13 August 2026 to support his bill to tighten gambling rules.
