Two Victoria Police officers charged over Indigenous man's arrest

Victoria's anti-corruption body IBAC has charged a Senior Constable with aggravated assault with a weapon and a Sergeant with unlawful assault, stemming from an August 2025 arrest of an Indigenous man in eastern Melbourne. The officers face Ringwood Magistrates Court on 11 September 2026. Australian oversight bodies have seldom secured convictions against police for excessive force.
