Two Victoria Police officers criminally charged over Indigenous man's arrest — court hearing set for September

Victoria's anti-corruption commission IBAC charged a Senior Constable with aggravated assault with a weapon and a Sergeant with unlawful assault over force used during the August 2025 arrest of an Indigenous man in Melbourne's east. The officers face Ringwood Magistrates Court on 11 September 2026. Australian oversight bodies have rarely secured convictions against police for excessive force.
