Chris Penk won't seek re-election after failed leadership challenge

National MP Chris Penk will not contest the 2026 election for Kaipara ki Mahurangi. The Prime Minister's office confirmed the move days after Penk challenged Christopher Luxon for the leadership, survived a confidence vote, and lost all his ministerial portfolios. Party president Sylvia Wood said a new candidate will be selected under party rules.
