MP Chris Penk to leave Parliament after challenging PM for the top job

National MP Chris Penk will not stand in the 2026 election. The Prime Minister's office announced it days after Penk tried to replace Christopher Luxon as party leader. Penk survived a vote to keep him in the party but lost all his government roles. Party president Sylvia Wood said a new candidate will be chosen.
