Home Office to open 1,000-bed asylum site near tiny Oxfordshire village
The Home Office will house over 1,000 asylum-seekers at a former military site near Piddington, Oxfordshire, a village of about 400. Minister Anna Turley said disused MoD sites are more contained. Piddington held a symbolic referendum in protest; parish vice-chairman Mike Nixon leads opposition. It is one of three former military sites proposed in June 2026.
