Government plans large asylum-seeker centre near small village
The Home Office will house over 1,000 asylum-seekers — people seeking refuge in the UK — at an old military base near Piddington, Oxfordshire, a village of about 400 people. Minister Anna Turley said such sites are easier to manage. Locals held a protest vote; parish councillor Mike Nixon leads opposition. It is one of three old bases proposed in June 2026.
