Putin Threatens to Seize European Ships in Response to EU Sanctions

Putin warned from a Russian warship off Sakhalin that Russia would seize European vessels if EU states confiscate Russian cargo ships. He ordered the Defence Ministry and Pacific Fleet to prepare. The threat follows July 2026 EU sanctions — penalties restricting trade — that allow members to sell seized Russian oil and cargo. Putin called the policy "piracy and robbery."
