Canberra and NSW near deal on Tomago smelter rescue

The PM and NSW Premier will jointly bail out the Tomago aluminium smelter, ending a standoff over the package. NSW has already parked $1.1 billion in its 2026 budget. The smelter's AGL power deal runs out in December 2028, and owner Rio Tinto started consulting staff on its future last October.
