U-M LSA to Pilot Pass/No-Credit Grading for First-Semester Freshmen in Fall 2027

The University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts will replace first-semester freshman letter grades with pass/no-credit designations starting fall 2027. Instructors will still grade coursework internally; transcripts will show only P or NC. The pilot's stated goal is addressing student mental health.
