U.S. Government Sues Live Nation, Wants to Break Up the Company

The Department of Justice (the federal government's law enforcement agency) is suing Live Nation Entertainment, the giant company that runs most major concert venues and ticket sales in America. Instead of working within an old agreement from 2010, the government is taking a stronger legal approach that could force the company to sell off parts of its business. Twenty-nine states are joining the lawsuit. The government argues that Live Nation has too much power because it owns concert venues, manages artists, and runs Ticketmaster (the main ticket-selling website) all at the same time. This combination lets the company control too much of the concert business, making it harder for smaller competitors to compete fairly.
