GitHub Copilot Shifts to Pay-Per-Use Pricing in June

GitHub is replacing Copilot's flat monthly fee with usage-based billing starting June 1, 2026. You'll pay $0.01 per AI credit based on what you actually use—measured by the amount of text you send to the AI and the text it generates back. Teams can share a pool of credits. This aligns pricing with actual computing costs, a model cloud providers like AWS adopted years ago as the technology matured.
