Pentagon Confirms Enemies Used Smartphone Location Data to Track US Troops

The US military has confirmed that hostile nations and groups bought location data from commercial companies to track and target American soldiers deployed overseas. This data comes from the same services that apps use to know your location. A 2016 military test had already shown this weakness by tracking special operations forces from home bases to Syria using publicly available location information.
