U.S. Government Commits $5 Billion to Speed Up Scientific Research With AI

On July 22, 2026, the White House and the Department of Energy unveiled the Genesis Mission, a $5 billion plan across 15 government agencies to double the speed of American research using artificial intelligence. Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced 278 projects funded from over 5,000 proposals, covering health care, energy, defense, quantum computing, and materials science.
