No new hate crime laws, says Law Commission — fix sentencing instead

The Law Commission says don't create separate hate crime charges — they'd rarely be used. Its 22 July 2026 report says judges should instead give longer sentences when a crime is motivated by hate. Twelve recommendations aim to improve how that works now.
