Fake explicit images hard to police under current law, MP says

ACT MP Laura McClure told a parliamentary committee that police struggle to prosecute fake sexual images of real people, because the law requires proving the creator meant to cause harm. In one 2026 case, the victim's family had to build the case themselves. Her bill would make creating such images without consent illegal regardless of intent.
