Two firefighters die fighting fire near airport in France

Two firefighters died fighting a wildfire near Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport in south-west France on July 21, 2026. The fire burned about one hectare — roughly the size of a sports field — and spread to a building near a parking lot. It was not yet under control. Around 100 firefighters and water-dropping planes were sent. Arriving flights were delayed. Interior Minister Nuñez confirmed the deaths in parliament.
