Two firefighters dead battling blaze near Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport

Two firefighters died battling a brush fire near Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport in south-west France on July 21, 2026. The blaze spread to a building by a parking lot, consuming roughly one hectare, and remained uncontained at the time of reporting. Around 100 firefighters and specialist aircraft were deployed. Arriving flights were delayed. Interior Minister Nuñez confirmed the deaths in parliament.
