Cost of living rises again as prices climb to a two-year high

Prices across Aotearoa rose 4.1% over the year to June 2026, Stats NZ says — the biggest jump in more than two years. That's above the Reserve Bank's comfort zone of 1–3%. Petrol prices pushed higher by the US-Iran war drove most of the increase. In March the annual figure was 3.1%.
