Australia spent $971.6 million this year holding about 100 asylum seekers on Nauru — roughly $9.6 million each. They get $260 a fortnight for food, water and basics. A refugee charity surveyed 78 of them: 77 can't afford enough to eat. A basic phone data plan alone swallows 20% of that allowance.
