New Company Finds Smart Way Around Vehicle Rules With Special Delivery Bikes
A company called Also, which started as a spinoff from electric vehicle maker Rivian, designed a clever cargo bike (a bike for carrying packages) that doesn't need the same licenses and registrations as regular delivery trucks. The bikes still have pedals that riders can use and meet the official rules for electric bikes in most cities. This means Also's bikes can use bike lanes—special paths just for bicycles—where regular delivery vans aren't allowed. Being able to use bike lanes gives Also a big advantage when making deliveries in busy city areas, since their bikes can take faster routes that trucks can't access. This smart approach also helps the company save money on last-mile deliveries, which is the final step of getting packages to customers' doors.
