Federal officials told MPs on the public safety committee that online and social media checks were not needed for Biwei Zhang's mid-level security pass before her NATO work placement. That deeper check is only for the highest pass. Zhang, 33, cleared by Canada's spy service and federal police, was arrested in Mons, Belgium, in July over spying claims.
