"Secret" clearance did not need online check, officials say

Federal officials told the House public safety committee that internet and social media checks were not required for the "secret"-level clearance given to Biwei Zhang before her NATO internship. Those checks apply only to "top secret" clearance. Zhang, 33, vetted by CSIS and the RCMP, was arrested in Mons, Belgium, in July on espionage allegations.
